Stimulated Raman Scattering and Cross Phase Modulation Analysis for Optical Networks
نویسنده
چکیده
In optical wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) systems, if the number of users are increased, the crosstalk becomes more severe due to imperfections in the optical passive networks and nonlinear effects in the optical fiber. In this research paper Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS) and Cross Phase Modulation (XPM) are studied as the source of nonlinear degradation in the multichannel system. The crosstalk induced by SRS and XPM has been evaluated for wavelength division multiplexed networks. In SRS induced crosstalk it is observed that as the modulation frequency increases the crosstalk decreases and for XPM as the modulation frequency increases the crosstalk increases. These variations have been observed for different transmission lengths. KeywordsSRS, XPM, NZDF, NZDSF, transmission

A number of third order nonlinear processes can occur in single-mode fibres and an 8 understanding of such phenomena is almost a prerequisite for actual lightwave-system designers. 9 In this paper we review the main limitations imposed by several nonlinear effects, namely the self10 and cross-phase modulation, four-wave mixing, stimulated Raman scattering and stimulated 11 Brillouin scattering,...
متن کاملUnified description of ultrafast stimulated Raman scattering in optical fibers
Coupled nonlinear equations that describe the nonlinear process of stimulated Raman scattering in optical fibers are derived. These equations account in a unified manner for the Raman amplification, the Stokes generation, the induced self-frequency shift, and the interpulse stimulated Raman-scattering-induced crossfrequency shift. The equations reduce to a well-known form for relatively wide pi...

Dense Wavelength Division multiplexing (DWDM) is a novel technology that can improve the channel capacity and meet growing demands for bandwidth of the optical fiber communication system. This technology utilizes a composite optical signal carrying multiple information streams. Each information streams transmitted on a distinct optical wavelength onto a single fiber. The performance of DWDM is ...
متن کاملCross-phase modulation and induced focusing due to optical nonlinearities in optical fibers and bulk materials
Cross-phase modulation (XPM) and induced focusing occur when copropagating ultrafast pulses interact in a nonlinear medium. XPM and induced focusing are investigated as new techniques to control the spectral, temporal, and spatial properties of ultrafast pulses with femtosecond time response. In this paper we review our most recent measurements on (1) induced spectral broadening in BK7 glass, (...
